“It’s better to give than to receive.” I don’t know. I like getting stuff. Giving is fun, but if I had to choose between the two, I don’t think there would be a clear winner…
However, if we evaluate the matter in practical terms, it is always good to be a person with a reputation for giving more than receiving. No one has ever tried to push away a person who contributed more than they took.
Even if you don’t consider generosity to be its own reward, it is undeniable that it opens doors. People ask for you more often, if you have such a reputation.
“But how much should I contribute? If I always focus on contributing, how do I know that others won’t abuse my generosity? ”
I like the “three-to-one” ratio. No-one can complain about that. Give three times more than you take. At work. In social life. And why not, in friendships and relationships? You’ll never go wrong.
Contribute more than what you take.
Everyone will always want you around.
