One of the most interesting books I read in 2018 was the autobiographical novel “Just Kids” by Patti Smith.
Sometimes there are turns of phrase that stay with us, even if they don’t have any special part to play in the story. Almost in passing, Patti shares a folk saying she inherited from her mother: “Whatever you’re doing on the first day of the year, that’s what you’ll be doing for the rest of the year.”
That phrase stayed with me. It does not make sense, in a rational way. But when a phrase jumps at us from the page and lodges itself firmly in our head, then respect is due. I will even go as far as to say: ignore it at your own peril!
Tomorrow is the first day of 2019. What are you going to find yourself doing?
